Mini Love Stories: Hindsight Is 20/20

A Collection of Mini Love Stories on Hindsight in Dating

Today I’m sharing three mini love stories involving a change in perspective after the fact.

There Was No Compatibility, but I Wanted There to Be

Where did we meet? I can’t remember, but I know you arrived late. Our conversation was stilted. You were a hip musician by profession; I struggled to relate. I hugged you goodbye hoping to see you again. I never did. I know now that we were not meant to date. But why wasn’t it clear at the time?

There Was Magic, but It Was Never Between Us

We danced together in The Nutcracker.
Waltzing at arms’ distance.
You saw my recital
And brought me a dozen pink roses.
I saw your magic show,
And you asked me to participate.
A mutual friend told me you liked me,
But something seemed off between us.
Then you started dating men.
Now I understand!

I Thought He Was Full of Himself, but Really He Was Insecure

We met in Jack London Square
And sat side-by-side at the bar.
I don’t remember much.
I wanted to learn about you,
But all you told me was:
How much money you made
And how much your condo cost.
At the time, I thought you were full of yourself.
Looking back, I see what was really at play:
Insecurity.
