Here’s to the Mothers; I See You All, All of You

Here’s to the mothers.

The ones who nurture their babies, who create loving space for their children to grow and explore.
And the ones who don’t, but who try their best anyway.

The ones who feel they are fulfilling their life’s calling, for whom “Mom” is the most prized title.
And the ones who feel they’ve lost themselves along the way.

The ones who are longing for motherhood, for a family, for just one more child.
The ones who’ve lost their children, and everyone knows.
And the ones who’ve lost their babies, and no one knows.

The ones who are mothers by other means – teaching or nannying or nursing or “aunting.”
The ones who’ve made their best decision to not bear children.
And the ones who’ve had that choice made for them.

Here’s to the mothers. I see you all, all of you.

I love you, Mom.
