A Collection of Mini Love Stories Involving Bad Dates
Today I’m sharing three mini love stories about bad dates.
Strange Impressions
You were a tall traveling nurse.
I was a new SLP.
I suggested the Starry Plough for live music.
You agreed.
I couldn’t hear you over the heavy metal
And the noise of my own thoughts:
He is getting a strange impression of me.
Where’s the Joy in That? We Made a Poor Match
Fenton’s for ice cream was a fun first date. We sat in a bouncy booth by the windows and watched kids, high on sugar and skipping across the checkered floors. You suggested we share a sundae. I compromised, with resistance, when we selected flavors and toppings. As you later stated, you didn’t really enjoy eating. You didn’t enjoy food. Our single shared sundae was a departure from your thrice-daily Soylent meal replacements. Efficient, you said. But I couldn’t fathom it. Where’s the joy in that? We wouldn’t have made a match.
I Was Embarrassed That Night to Affiliate With You
We met at Cholita Linda,
My favorite safe place for a date.
You told me about your dog
And about your job at the hospital.
The New Parkway with popcorn was our second date.
I don’t remember which movie we saw.
All I remember was the way you said
SHHHHHHHHHH
Loudly and repeatedly
To anyone who disturbed your viewing of it.
I was embarrassed that night
To affiliate with you.
