It Wasn’t a Fail-Safe Plan for Comfort

Do you remember?
Going for a long misty walk by the bay?
We were between semesters,
And you were between girlfriends.

Was it a date?
We were friends, but not close.
We weren’t the kind of friends that would go for strolls.
I wish I could have asked.

What are your intentions?
The words were on my tongue,
But I couldn’t push them out.
I didn’t want to make it awkward.

As it turned out,
Avoiding those questions
Wasn’t a fail-safe plan for comfort.
Everything was awkward anyway.
